We're finally ending the production phase one! This is very exciting, because we're entering production phase two! Which doesn't really change anything in the work we do, so nothing really changes - very exciting!
Let's get down to business!
Art
Character
For the character, nothing changed much - except getting a few new swanky animations.
> Ladder animation & interaction animation.
Environment
In the case of our environment, we focused on finishing important props in terms of our gameplay mechanics - we wanted to make sure we had meshes ready to be used. The next production phase will be all about creating the main level and making it look appealing - this week was prepwork for that, in a way.
> Fuel Dispenser, Cooler, Gem Dispenser etc. was modeled.
> Decorative modular elements were modeled.
Gameplay
considering last week we finished up the basic movement, we thought it would be a good idea to start working on the game loop. To get that fully working we needed some more machines for the drill. So we finished the item dispensers, the gem machine, and the boiler.
The item dispensers will provide the moles with the needed equipment to keep the drill running. These can be buckets/containers of water and fuel and the super versatile wrench. Slam it against the furnace and it will work again.
The gem machine drops the few gems it had picked up along the way into a basket for the player to pick up. These can be used to keep your score up or add to the ATM. This will increase the money in the group account. This is the main element of the game. You need that money to buy tools to keep your drill running.
Another big improvement is that drill now doesn't float in space, it is now underground going down. We added a moving background wall that reacts to the furnace running.
The biggest improvement is the moles not Tposing around anymore they actually run around and climb the ladders. They also use machines. We just need to have a good idle animation.
