Devlog #5 - Mole Et Labora

DEVLOG #5

Once again, a development log is due. This time after a two week easter break, we bring you one step closer to our ultimate goal - a functional and enjoyable game.

(We've got a long way to go.)

Artists have been hard at work in modeling important assets, animating our mole character, and nitpicking each others bevel thicknesses. The programmers have been building up the solid stone foundation for our game - fun, smooth movement. And building binaries.

Here's what's what:

ART

Character

> Character has been retopologized, unwrapped, rigged, and given a run animation

Environment

> A number of important, interactable assets were modeled

These are just a few examples of what we've got right now - we're in the process of applying our material shader to assets in an appealing way.

The next week we'll continue on the same path: modeling more unique pieces & modular pieces, applying shaders, texturing the mole, and creating more animations to it.

GAMEPLAY

This week we had to start over from nothing, with the added challenge C++. We create a whole new project and started to work on our signature movement system. A new mole can move around on the plane now.

But 1 one mole is lonely so we started working on our local co-op system as well. The more controllers you add the more players there are. For now, you and 1 friend can tackle the empty plane.

But there is more,  moving left and right is a bit boring on its own so we also added the ladder and an elevator.

Ladders need to be able to go wherever you want so we made them adjustable. Ladders how big/small you desire.

The elevator has a maintenance problem at the current moment but our technicians are looking into the problem. We hope that soon we can take the elevator up instead of having to rely on our legs to go up.

FINAL WORDS

With everyone on the team well rested, the production phase will surely be a cakewalk. No problems will happen at all, None. We hope for next week that the mole will be traversing around in a not-empty plane of existence!

See y'all next week. Keep on molin'.
